(1) Fiat 500L

Growing up is a reality of life, and Fiat prove the 500 is no exception with the launch of their new more sophisticated, family sized 500L. Top of the list, the large MPV\’s obvious appeal lies with the female buyer who dreamed of owning a chick 500 but had ruled it out because of its small size and incompatibility with bringing up a growing family.

Although substantially larger than the small city car and in deed the roomiest car in its class, the 500L maintains Fiat\’s eye-catching Italian style throughout. On offer is a choice of three trim levels: Pop Star, Easy and Lounge with 300 colour combinations and 1500 interior options.

Fiat are offering a choice of four engines: the 1.4-litre Fire petrol, 875cc TwinAir Turbo, and the 1.3 (available with manual and automatic transmissions) and finally the range topping 1.6-litre MultiJet 2 turbo diesel.

In at number two on our list of the top five new cars, the streetwise supermini packs a huge punch in a sector where the single key ingredient is style. Adam, Vauxhall\’s answer to the likes of Fiat\’s 500 and with over a million ways to customise, the car not only has a clear advantage over its established rival, it s possibly the most customisable car ever produced.

Unlike rivals, Vauxhall has steered away from a retro look, instead opting for a modern sporty aesthetic placing the car amongst a new breed of supermini.

The Vauxhall Adam is available in a range of engines with 5-speed manual transmission including the entry level 1.2-litre 70 bhp and the range topping 1.4-litre 100 bhp. You\’ll also have the option to add an ecoFLEX technology pack which is designed to improve the efficiency on what are already fairly efficiency engines.

(3) Citroen DS3 Cabrio

The DS3 Cabrio takes third place, the newbie from Citroen comfortably accommodates five making it the only genuine five seater in a class saturated by four seaters. If you\’re a new car buyer looking for a car that enables you to take full advantage of the somewhat unpredictable UK summer then the DS3 Cabrio deserves genuine consideration.

The cars part piece is its stylish drop top roof which offers occupants the ability to shut out the rain in a mere 16 seconds and can be operated at motorway speeds. The car offer a choice of three engines including the 1.6 THP 155 Dsport, sitting at the top of the range, it\’s capable of achieving 0-60 in just 7.3 seconds.

With so many new cars entering the UK market it can be hard to compete, the DS3 Cabrio goes one step further, pitted against its closest rival the Mini Convertible, Citroen\’s DS3 Cabrio not only undercuts the Mini on price but also boasts a more comprehensive level of spec as standard. Other ageing rivals such as Fiat\’s 500C may also have a tough job competing with the refinement offered by Citroen.

Revving in at number four is the first three door car in the Leon\’s 15-year history. SEAT\’s new Leon SC sees its official launch on the 18th of July. Designed specifically as a three door, the car offers a fresh new sporty look that\’s bound to turn heads. The car boasts sports-style front seats as standard and comes with a large sleek sun roof that s operated at the push of a button.

SEAT\’s new sports coupe comes in various engines ranging from the modest 1.2-litre petrol to the fuel guzzling 2.0-litre with a bhp of 143. For those more concerned about fuel efficiency there\’s also three Ecomotive options on offer: 1.2 TDI CR Ecomotive S 3dr [AC], 1.2 TDI CR Ecomotive S Copa 3dr, 1.2 TDI CR Ecomotive SE Copa 3dr which are said to achieve 80.7 mpg.

(5) Ford Focus ST

Fifth places goes to Ford for their third generation Focus ST which offers up a 2.0-Litre EcoBoost engine which powers from 0-62 to in an impressive 6.5 seconds. Despite the smaller engine size, compared to its two 2.5-Litre predecessors, the new ST has a substantially increased bhp of 247. The car achieves 39.2 mpg combined, making it the most fuel efficient Focus ST ever produced.

The car\’s improved running costs mean it\’s likely to be a more desirable option for casual daily drivers whilst the increased bhp ensures the cars appeal amongst seasoned ST fanatics doesn\’t dwindle.

Styling wise the car boasts Ford\’s stylish new, almost Aston Martin like trapezoidal grill along with the obligatory body kit while the cars stand out feature is the new centre-exit exhaust.
