Cleaning windows is not a fun job by any means, but it’s a job that has to be done nonetheless. Now that we’re right into summer, there is no better time to get a really good start on your window cleaning. This mission doesn’t have to be gruelling if you have the right tools and information. With these helpful hints, your window cleaning practice will become more effortless, and more productive, which means you won’t have to clean them as often. Yet, take note, if you have aged windows that are in harsh shape, it may take more than cleaning them, you might have to consider getting new replacement windows. So now, read on to learn some productive techniques for getting the cleanest windows achievable.

Tip #1 : Timing is Everything: Whether or not you knew it, there is a certain time to clean your windows that produces better results than others. It isn’t on the sunniest day of spring or summer, rather, it’s those cloudy, gloomy days when the sun is hidden. When you choose to clean your widows on the bright, sunny days, almost always the sun will dry the cleaner you spray on the windows as you’re polishing it off. This makes for a very spotty and streaky window when really you want them crystal clear. It is best to clean them on a grey day. Anyways, who really wants to be cleaning on a nice, sunny day?

Tip #2 : It takes the Right Tools: There are a million things you could use to clean your windows with, like that roll of paper towel, but there are also tools you can use to get the most effective cleaning done. The best set of materials to use are: a squeegee, old cotton tees or rags, newspaper, and your cleaning solution of choice. A squeegee helps to reach high areas of larger windows. Cotton tees or rags will help polish the windows without leaving behind lint or debris that paper towel can leave behind, and newspaper will make magic with your windows which you can read about later in the article.

Tip #3 : Toothpaste is Versatile: You heard me right, toothpaste. Weathered windows have gone through a lot with harsh winters and rough storms and sometimes you can see the effects. Your windows will bare tiny nicks and scratches and toothpaste can make them disappear. All you must do is polish that small scuffed area with a little bit of toothpaste before you clean your window and the scratches will vanish before your eyes.

Tip #4 : Don’t Be Fooled by Streaks: We’ve all been fooled by this before : you finish cleaning a window on both sides, only to see those foggy streaks appear. Having said that, you can’t figure out which window side is streaky or if they both are, so it comes down to you re-cleaning the same window all over again. Let’s stop this from occurring again. Try washing one side of the window with vertical strokes, and then wash the opposite side with horizontal strokes. Therefore, if there happens to be streaks, their direction will tell you which side they are on. With luck ,, still, you will not have to worry about streaks at all after reading this article.

Tip #5 : Don’t Let it Drip: When you wash your windows, be aware of any window cleaner that may be on its way to the window sill or frame. Most window cleaners can ruin paint or finishes that are used on wooden frames. To stop this from happening, try washing your windows from the top down. This will help you catch any dripping cleaner on your way down the window.

Tip #6 : Give Your Newspaper Another Purpose: Remember the mention of newspaper in the tools tip? Well this is why it is so special. Newspaper can easily replace your old cotton tee or rag because, surprisingly, it has incredible polishing abilities. Simply rub a crumpled up piece of newspaper on your window as you would a cotton rag and watch your window shine and sparkle! Not to mention, the newspaper will leave an invisible residue on your window that protects it from dirt and dust, letting your windows stay cleaner for even longer! This can only mean one thing : you won’t have to clean your windows as often!

Tip #7 : Concoct Your Own Cleaner: If you want to be a little more green or save a few dollars, here is how to make your own window cleaning solution at home : and yes, it works just as well as store bought cleaner.Mix two tablespoons of ammonia, cup of rubbing alcohol and teaspoon of dishwashing detergent into a spray bottle. Pour water into the rest of the bottle and shake it well. If you are worried about using ammonia, you can substitute the ammonia with three tablespoons of lemon juice or vinegar.

So there you have it : some great yips to help you more effectively clean your windows. Now get out there and enjoy the summer, and save the cleaning for those cloudy days!
